European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) PAH4 Separated on Rxi-35Sil MS – The Coalition Against Coelution (CAC) Continues Its Dominance over Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs)

The Coalition Against Coelution (CAC) is putting together all the pieces for you now on the most important PAHs according to the European Food Safety Authority’s Scientific Opinion of the Panel on Contaminants in the Food Chain for Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons. The PAH4, consisting of benzo[a]pyrene, benz[a]anthracene, chrysene, and benzo[b]fluoranthene, are representative of the carcinogenic potential of most food samples, which makes their unbiased quantification very important.  

I separated the PAH4 from isobaric interferences by using a super-duper Rxi-35Sil MS GC column produced by friend and colleague, Shawn “May-The-Force-Be-With-You” Reese.  Often, the hardest separation is chrysene from triphenylene, and the 35Sil MS did a nice job on that one.  You can almost drive a truck through the rest of the PAH4 separations…
