European Pharmacopoeia (EU) methods tend to be vague in their description for column requirements, which can make choosing the correct column a little tricky. To simply things, I listed the Restek HPLC columns that best match the columns (phases) listed in the European Pharmacopoeia “Reagents” chapter. Hopefully this makes it a little easier to choose the correct column for your particular EU method.
For GC column suggestions for the EU methods, refer to our GC capillary columns for the European Pharmacopoeia methods post.
Contact us or your Restek sales representative if you have any questions.
Thank you.

Hi,
I was looking for this information exactly but the list is missing a few “reagents” from the EP.
The organosilica ones are missing.
I was specially interested on EP’s reference code 1150600.
Right now the only one I know that matches the code is Waters Xterra RP but I’m looking into alternatives to Waters.
Any sugestions?
Thank you very much,
Ivo Fernandes
Hello Ivo,
Thank you for checking out my blog post.
The EP reference code 1150600 references a material or column that Restek does not offer.
This particular code specifies for an organosilica polymer, which is composed of hybrid particles containing both inorganic (silica) and organic (organosiloxanes) components. Restek does not offer any hybrid nor polymeric HPLC columns unfortunately. Therefore we do not have a match or equivalent to the Waters Xterra RP. Only EP “reagents” that Restek can match are included in this post.
Good luck in your analytical endeavors Ivo.
Tim
refrence Code: 1153500 is equivalent which the column? I need more information that column? Thank you!
Thank you for inquiring.
Unfortunately however Restek does not offer carbon-based HPLC columns, which is what EU code 1153500 calls for.
I am sorry we could not help.
Hi,
I am looking for the column from the PH.EU for HPLC of levodopa. “spherical di-isobuyloctadecylsilyl silica gel column for chromatography R (5 micro meter) with a porze size of 8 nm”. (I think ref. number is 1140000). Can you help me to find this column?
Kind Regards,
Rudolf
Hello Rudolph,
The Raptor ARC-18 would most closely match this description.
Please refer to the “description” tab within the product information page contained in the link below.

Tim
hello sir
i just wanted to know the difference between silica bonded column and nitrile bonded column and whether a silica bonded column can be used instead of a nitrile column.
Hi there. A silica-based column can have many stationary phases. C18, cyano (nitrile), C8, biphenyl are all examples of different stationary phases, which can be bonded to the surface of the silica.
So to answer your question, a nitrile bonded column IS a specific silica bonded column.
I hope that helps.
Hello
I am looking for the column from the PH.EU for HPLC of Remifentanil. “end-capped octadecylphenylsilyl silica gel column for chromatography R (2 um) 0.10 m, 2.1 mm”.
What can you recomend me to use?
Thank you
Hello,
Unfortunately Restek does not have a matching phase. According to the old EU description, it sounds like both a C18 and a phenyl groups are called for. I have never seen this type of column. We have phenyl-hexyl, biphenyl, and C18’s, but not a combination. I am sorry we could not help there.
Hello ,
I required 250 X 4mm,5µm Column stationary phase -4-nitrophenyl carbamidesilyl slica gel for Rs analysis for Hydroxypropyl betadex EP .
Hello Pandurang,
Unfortunately Restek does not offer this type of column.
I am sorry we did not have that.
